Winter Wonderland! A Glimpse of the Magic of Hoar Frost
Hoar Frost on Russian Olive Seeds

Hoar frost is an enchanting natural phenomenon that often delights onlookers as its ethereal, lacey appearance appears on cold winter mornings.

What is Hoar Frost?

Hoar frost, also called pruinose ice, is a type of frost that forms when the temperature of the air cools below the freezing point of water and there is high humidity. Hoar frost appears as white, feathery crystals on objects such as trees, bushes, and grasses. The crystals form when water vapor in the air condenses onto these objects.

This video showcases the beauty of hoar frost and winter snow in the landscape, under the big blue sky.
