How To Hydrate The Rootball Of Perennials For Increased Transplanting Success

Perennials are a great way to add color and life to your garden, but ensuring they transplant successfully can be tricky.
The challenge with today’s container perennials and nursery stock is keeping the roots hydrated due to the light soil mixes used by growers. A majority of wholesale growers now operate in Oregon, where the climate is favorable for growing. However, due to the long, wet winters, plants’ root systems can rot if soil mixes retain too much water. Therefore, light, well-drained mixes are essential for their success.
But after planting in the ground, that rootball can dry out quickly, causing transplant failure.
In this video, I share an easy way to hydrate the rootball of perennials for increased transplanting success!
The video also looks at the consequences of planting over the top of an irrigation line.
